Dancing Trees: the Little River

In the Winter of 2009 I painted this colorful expressionistic plein air landscape of trees and water on the Little River, near Valdosta, Georgia. Unlike most of my paintings it does not feature a clear, traditional horizon line, but invites the viewer to travel though the swamp guided by the watery foreground through the cypresses and sweet gums to the peachy-yellow light of the setting sun in the upper right.

Suwannee Springs, River Bank

Painted en plein air at Suwannee Springs on the Suwannee River near Live Oak, Florida. When the river is low, a sandy beach provides recreation for locals who swing from the trees into the black water and leap off the shell of an abandoned spring house wall into the cool waters of Suwannee Springs.
