Shired Island

This is a really big drawing of Shired Island, in the big bend of remote, swampy FLorida. After painting and hiking around this lush swampland I very much had a vision of a drawing that would convey the mysterious vastness of the watery world. I was interested in the the mark-making process of charcoal against the gessoed paper surface and the reflection of the sky and land in the water, and the strange flora conveyed through a darker and more nuanced media than my usual colorful oil paintings.
