Watercolor, pastel, and mixed media
In the last few years I have taken to remote waterways to paint from my canoe, and even more recently from my kayak. I love painting from the unique perspective of the water, immersed in my subject. The watercolor paintings are bright and full of light and air, reflecting a serene energy that speaks of the place, as well as my changing feelings. Soft pastels lend themselves to my direct, spontaneous approach; I make marks with a more delicate hand than the with the heavy brushstrokes of thick paint. Layering pure pigment on paper lends a luminosity to the color, and the marks extend a lively energy to the drawing.
